Chances are you serve many who are affected by Type 2 diabetes. Because there are always changes and advances in diabetes and what we know to be true, you likely have heard one of the following myths.

Myth1

Type 2 diabetes is a complicated disease with many different factors to consider. Foods with carbohydrates will cause blood sugars to rise, and we now know that a baked potato will raise blood sugar as will a cookie. Eating sugar does not alone cause diabetes. There are also lifestyle factors and a genetic component to take into account.

Myth2

If you have diabetes, it doesn’t mean that you need to have a much more restrictive diet than the rest of the population. Carbohydrates may be monitored and balanced throughout the day. Following an overall healthy, well-balanced meal of whole grains, lean proteins and fruits and vegetables is recommended.
